Get A Bar and Get Noticed
Get A Bar is launching a new portal for rap artists to promote themselves and get noticed. We are not a record label and won’t start a record label any time soon. We are simply a conduit for you to promote yourself and make some cash before you get signed.

How it works:
We don’t have a clue yet…but kind of like this:
- Get a Name:
Sign up for an account and fill out a profile. Your username will be your artist name. If you’re JZ then your username will be JZ. - Get a Bar:
Record it, cut it then upload it to GetaBar.com through your profile. You can set a price for each song. The minimum for each song is 25¢ and the maximum is $5. We recommend setting it low to get your music out there. The default price is 99¢. - Get a Review:
After you upload and your songs have been reviewed you’ll go live. We have to review each song because we can get into big trouble if you try and sell the new Tupac under your name on our site. We’re then going to call you to make sure you are who you are, (this brings us to the next part). - Get a Sale, Get a Card, Get a Payment:
Every time you get a sale, money will be transfered into your GetABar.com account. Once your account has accumulated enough to get a payment, ($10 minimum), GetABar.com is going to send you a reusable debit card. You can use this debit card for whatever you want…it’s your money. Don’t throw the card away! We’re going to reload you automatically every time your acocunt reaches your specified transfer amount.
Questions:
Q: WTF???
A: Not sure.
Q: If I quit the site but don’t have the minimum do you keep the money.
A: Sort of…not really. Let’s say you get signed…you’ll have to take your music down from this site…we get that. So, here’s how you do it: Before you take down your music, don’t take a payout. Just turn off your payouts. Then you take down the music. Then click on the final payout button. GetABar.com is going to pay you on the GetABar.com debit card just like always. The final payment is going to probably be a little more than you were expecting because of the hold-back. Also, your final payment will be made after the hold-back period expires, (up to 90 days). Unless it’s a huge amount of money, don’t obsess over it; we’re going to pay you.
Q: What is hold-back?
A: Hold back is a certain amount GetABar.com holds in a sub-account until the charge back period has expired for a transaction. We’ve made the hold-back period 90 days to make damn sure we don’t lose any money to a charge back. The hold-back is per transaction so you’ll see money only accumulate for 90 days but then you’ll see it go up and down as songs are purchased and hold-backs are released.
Q: What is a charge back?
A: A charge back is is something that happens when a credit card company reverses a transaction. This can happen if the buyer is unauthorized to use the card or during a complaint process in the event that the buyer never receives the service or merchandise purchased. We do everything within reason to prevent charge backs but they do happen from time-to-time.
Q: How much is the hold-back?
A: For artists with less than 180 days published in the system the hold-back is %25 of each royalty. For all others it’s 10%. Remember, though, you get 100% of the hold-back for a transaction when the transaction has passed the 90 day hold-back period. Note: If you blow up and take off all of a sudden we’re going to increase the hold-back percentage on your account until we know the sales are legit. For legal reasons I’m supposed to write that we can change this whenever we want at our discretion as long as we notify you by email within 10 days of taking such action.
Q: How does GetABar.com make money?
A: We slice off the top of each sale. It’s not much but with all the artists publishing on GetABar.com it pays the light bill and helps us feed the Webmaster.
Q: Do I make a bigger cut if I produce more sales?
A: Yes. If you have one sale in 30 days you make 50% of the sale. If you have 10,000 sales in 30 days you make 90%. There are middle points but those are discussed in the terms and conditions. If you’re doing a crap-load more than that then you should Get a record deal.
* we are currently working on making all this true so don’t look for any of this just yet. It’s a working progress and the percentages are not final by any means.
